I’ll be honest: my Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard hasn’t been working hard lately.
I signed up for the card, earned the welcome bonus, and after that, it mostly became one of those cards I keep around but don’t use very often.
That doesn’t mean the card is useless. There are places where it can make sense. If you’re paying for a Virgin Voyages cruise, earning extra Virgin Points on that purchase is a nice perk. And since we do like Virgin Voyages, that’s at least part of the reason I paid attention to the card in the first place.
But for everyday spending? It’s not a card I reach for.
In fact, when the annual fee came due, the Virgin Red Mastercard was on the borderline of being cut. I wasn’t using it enough to make a strong case for keeping it. In the end, it made it another year, but I can’t say it has seen much action since then.
That’s why this offer got my attention.
A Small Offer, But An Easy One
I received an offer to earn 1,500 bonus Virgin Points by adding my Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard to a digital wallet and making two purchases of $10 or more between June 1 and July 15.
Only one 1,500-point offer can be earned per account.
That’s not a huge bonus. But the effort required is minimal.
I need to add the card to my digital wallet and make two $10 purchases. That’s it. Since I’m mostly in the Apple ecosystem, that means Apple Pay for me, but the offer is worded as a digital wallet offer, not specifically an Apple Pay offer.
For a card I was barely using anyway, this is exactly the kind of nudge that works.
Is 1,500 Virgin Points Worth Caring About?
I wouldn’t go out of my way for every tiny points offer, but this one is easy enough that I’ll do it.
1,500 Virgin Points are worth at least around $20 to me, and potentially more depending on how they’re used. That means I’m earning a small but useful bonus for $20 in purchases I can easily make anyway.
This isn’t the kind of offer that changes how I feel about the card in the long term. It doesn’t suddenly make the Virgin Red Mastercard a must-use card for daily spending. But it does make me pull the card out of the drawer, add it to my wallet, and use it twice.
And honestly, that’s probably the whole point of the offer.
Final Thought
The Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard is not a card I use very often. Outside of Virgin-related purchases, especially Virgin Voyages, it doesn’t really have a place in my points-earning strategy.
But if Virgin wants to give me 1,500 points for making two small digital wallet purchases, I’ll take the easy win.
It won’t save the card forever. But for now, it’s enough to get me to use it again.
