We Found A Possible Fix For Chase’s Ultimate Rewards Transfer Problem

by joeheg

Last year, I wrote about a frustrating Chase problem that could make it impossible to combine Ultimate Rewards points online. At the time, the only solution I knew was to call Chase and ask an agent to reconnect the accounts.

The problem wasn’t limited to us. Other Chase customers reported that their personal and business cards had disappeared from the Combine Points page, while some could see their cards but encountered an error when trying to move points.

For those cardholders, combining Ultimate Rewards points stopped being a quick online transaction. It became another reason to call Chase whenever they wanted to transfer points from an Ink card to a Sapphire card.

That mattered to us because both my wife Sharon and I have Ink Business Cash and Sapphire Preferred cards. The Ink Cash earns 5X Ultimate Rewards points in several useful categories, but we need to move those points to the Sapphire Preferred before we can transfer them to Chase’s airline and hotel partners.

After another recent call to Chase, however, a representative showed me a setting I hadn’t seen before. It may provide a way to fix at least one version of the problem without having to repeatedly call Chase.

The Chase Problem I Wrote About Last Year

In November 2025, I explained what happened after I removed an old Sapphire Reserve from my list of linked Ultimate Rewards accounts.

As soon as I deleted that card, Chase displayed a message saying there were no other accounts available to receive the points. Even worse, the option to add another card also disappeared.

At the time, the only apparent solution was to call Chase and have an agent manually relink the Ultimate Rewards accounts.

Other Chase customers were dealing with similar problems. Some had personal and business cards under separate logins that no longer appeared properly. Others could see their cards but received an identity-verification error whenever they attempted a transfer.

In many cases, Chase representatives could transfer the points over the phone but couldn’t permanently resolve the online transfer issue.

A Chase Representative Pointed Us Somewhere Else

During a recent call about Sharon’s accounts, the Chase representative didn’t simply reconnect the Ultimate Rewards cards behind the scenes.

Instead, the agent directed us to a section of the Chase for Business website called Manage linked accounts.

This is separate from the Combine Points page within Ultimate Rewards. I had been looking for a way to add the missing personal card from inside the rewards portal, but the account-linking option was buried in the main business profile settings.

How We Linked The Personal And Business Accounts

After signing in to the Chase for Business account, we selected the profile icon and opened Profile & Settings.

From there, we expanded Account settings and selected Manage linked accounts.

The page displayed the Chase business relationship already connected to the login. It also displayed Sharon’s personal Chase relationship under Available relationships.

We selected Link relationship, reviewed the list of personal cards that Chase planned to add and confirmed the request.

Her Sapphire Preferred Reappeared

After linking the personal relationship to the Chase for Business profile, we returned to Ultimate Rewards through the Ink Business Cash card.

This time, the Combine Points page showed Sharon’s Sapphire Preferred as an available destination. Her other eligible personal Chase cards also appeared.

That was the result we had been unable to achieve from inside the Ultimate Rewards website.

Instead of calling Chase whenever we want to move points from her Ink Cash to her Sapphire Preferred, the cards are now visible in the online Combine Points tool.

I repeated the process with my Ink Cash card and was able to transfer points to my Sapphire Preferred.

This May Not Fix Every Chase Transfer Problem

There appear to be several different Chase problems that can prevent someone from combining Ultimate Rewards points.

Our issue was that personal cards were not appearing as transfer destinations. Linking the personal and business relationships through the Chase for Business profile fixed that problem for us.

It may not fix the separate identity-verification error that some cardholders receive after selecting a card and attempting the transfer. Those customers may still need Chase to investigate the account or move the points by phone.

I also don’t know whether this setting recently became available to more customers or whether it had been sitting in the business profile all along. Chase’s representative was the first person who directed us to it.

A Much Better Solution Than Calling Every Time

When I wrote about this problem last year, I warned readers not to remove a working connection from the Combine Points page. Once the card disappeared, there appeared to be no way to add it again without calling Chase.

I’d still be careful about deleting any account that currently works.

However, the Manage linked accounts page gives Chase business cardholders another place to look when their personal cards are missing from Ultimate Rewards. In our case, linking the entire personal relationship caused the Sapphire Preferred to appear again.

It may not solve every Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer error, but it solved ours—and should save us from making another phone call every time we want to combine points.

Thank you for this! P2 has zero interest in calling each time when we needed to combine points. I’d have to remind them of the perks they get for doing it – this just worked for us and I won’t have to bribe them again 🙂
