Are you a fan of A Christmas Story? Have you ever dreamed of staying at Ralphie Parker’s house? (you already can, y’know) How about next door at the Bumpus house? Well, as it turns out, the owners of A Christmas Story House & Museum bought the home of the Parkers’ hillbilly neighbors (and their 785 smelly hounds) next door, and it became available for sleepovers earlier this year. To celebrate, they’re holding a sweepstakes to give away a night at their newest acquisition, the Bumpus house.
Warner Bros.’ “A Christmas Story,” first released in theaters in 1983, has been a Christmas season tradition on television since 1997, with 24-hour marathons of the movie broadcast in the U.S. on TBS and/or TNT on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.
Many of the outdoor scenes in the film, including the Parkers’ house, were filmed in Cleveland. In 2004, the house, located on 3159 W. 11th Street, was put up for sale on, of all places, eBay. Here’s the original eBay ad (photos via A Christmas Story House):
The winners of the auction, and current owners of the house, which was renovated and turned a museum and, later on, a place to stay overnight, have now purchased and renovated the house next door (3153 W. 11th Street, just to the left of Ralphie’s house) into the Parkers’ neighbors’ house, owned by the Bumpus family in the movie. The Bumpuses, said to be hillbillies, were never seen in the film, but their “785 smelly hound dogs” harassed Ralphie’s dad, “The Old Man,” on several occasions.
Anyway, the Bumpus House has 2 suites available for overnight stays and A Christmas Story House is holding a sweepstakes for one lucky fan to stay overnight on any available night before December 31, 2018. Here’s what they have to say on Facebook:
Note that the sweepstakes ends on Thursday, November 8th at 11:59pm. So if you’re interested in entering, do it SOON! Just click here! Good luck!
