I’m always looking for ways to earn extra cash back for everyday purchases. Therefore I was interested when I saw an ad the last time I opened the UBER app showing me how to earn UBER Cash with Visa Local Offers.
As it turns out, this is like a dining program or shopping portal but instead of earning miles or cash back, you can earn UBER Cash for our purchases. Signing up is as easy as looking at the UBER app on your phone.
UBER partners with Visa to offer a cash back portal for purchases made with a Visa card linked to your UBER account.
Earn Uber Cash when you join Visa Local Offers and use your eligible Visa card at featured stores.
HOW DO I START EARNING Uber Cash?
You must have at least one eligible Visa card on your Uber account and then join Visa Local Offers through the Uber app.
HOW DO I JOIN VISA LOCAL OFFERS?
Once you have at least one Visa card as a payment method on your Uber account, join Visa Local Offers in your Uber app.
1. Open your Uber app and tap the bottom of the screen to see your messages
2. Scroll down to the ‘Visa Local Offers’ message
3. Tap ‘Get Started’ and then tap ‘Count Me In’
Alternatively, you can enroll via the app menu.
1. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner of your app
2. Tap Settings
3. Under Rewards, tap Visa Local Offers and then tap Count Me In
Once you’ve joined, use any eligible Visa card on your Uber account at featured stores to earn Uber Cash.
If you add an eligible Visa card to your Uber account after you join Visa Local Offers, that card will automatically be enrolled in the program. If you delete any enrolled card(s) from your Uber account, the deleted card(s) will be automatically removed from the program.
Once you’ve opted into Visa Local Offers, they’ll show up every time you open the UBER app on your phone. Here are some offers I saw when I looked this evening. None of them looked appealing so I tapped on “Search for places”:
One of the offers was for the nearby Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Unlike the 5% rebate for Longhorn Steakhouse, I could earn 20% back on my purchase of overpriced steaks and side dishes at Ruth’s Chris.
I have my Sapphire Reserve card saved in the UBER app so I can earn 3x Ultimate Rewards for my rides
Here’s a screenshot of the details of the offer:
You need to know that the Visa Local Offers payments through UBER run through the same system as other dining programs. There’s no double dipping with both programs. The one time I ate at a restaurant that was in both the Delta SkyMiles Dining program and the Visa Local Offers system, I received the miles for my purchase but not the UBER Cash. I did get an email telling me since my card was already enrolled with another program, I was not able to earn UBER Cash for my purchase. Hey, it was worth a try.
Personally, I’d rather earn miles than UBER Cash. However, that might depend on the amount back I’m earning. If I’ll only get 5 miles per dollar with an airline but 20% back in UBER Cash with Visa Local offers, I’ll take the 20% every day.
When looking, I even saw an offer as high as 50% back at the local Adidas store. For me, you’ll always pronounce those sneakers like RUN-DMC, Ah-DEE-dis and not like our British friends who call them AH-dee-dahs. Add that as another word we just don’t agree upon.
