We Finally Met One Of San Francisco’s Most Famous Residents

a bridge over water

We’d visited San Francisco before but usually in the fall or spring. This year we visited at the end of January, and we got a surprise visit by one of the city’s most famous residents.

The fog.

Sure, I’d heard about the fog that rolls in from the bay. I wasn’t expecting to see it in January as it’s usually a summer phenomenon.

One late afternoon of our trip, we headed to Alamo Square Park to see the Painted Ladies at sunset.

It turned out to be a beautiful evening.

Until the fog rolled in. This picture was taken 10 minutes later:

I guess the skyline was still behind those houses, but we couldn’t see it.

When I posted the pictures to my Facebook, I was informed by one of our friends that the fog has a name, Karl the Fog. It even has its own Twitter account @KarlTheFog

Knowing this fact, we got the reference behind the name of this store at San Francisco Airport we saw when arriving.

Watching the fog roll in was fascinating. I’m glad we finally were able to see Karl the Fog in person.
