Walt Disney World and Disneyland Now Closed “Indefinitely”

When the U.S.-based Disney parks had closed due to the threat of coronavirus, it was originally announced to be only for a few weeks, through the end of March.

That’s now changed.

The Walt Disney Company said in a statement on Friday, March 27, that Walt Disney World and Disneyland will remain closed indefinitely.

“As a result of this of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed until further notice,” the company said in a statement.

The parks had been paying its hourly park and resort cast members (Disneyspeak for “employees”) since the closure and say they will continue to do so through April 18th. This comes on the heels of Universal Studios theme parks in California and Florida, which are also closed, stating that they will continue to pay their team members through mid-April.

The other Disney-owned parks: Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Shanghai also remain closed, although the Shanghai park recently reopened its hotel and shopping area, but not its park.
