April 8th was the final day of the Starbucks Starland promotion and I’m sad to see it go. The reason the promotion was so lucrative was people aren’t going to visit Starbucks locations. This is because Starbucks stores are only operating locations with drive-thrus and most of the country is being advised not to leave home except for essential travel.
I can’t see where a cup of coffee is a necessity when you can make it at home.
While I earned a few Starland entries by making Starbucks purchases (my main job is considered essential, so I was out of the house anyway) the majority of my entries were earned by filling out the online form.
I’m sad that I’ll no longer be able to sit at my computer for less than 5 minutes and earn a free coffee every day or two.
The last time I wrote about Starland, I had already earned 195 stars. I kept playing my two entries every day. For the last week, I only won 1 raffle ticket. Every other time it was stars, stars and more stars.
My final haul? 380 stars. That’s only 20 stars from the top redemption level of Starbucks Rewards, where I’d be able to get free merchandise or a bag of coffee to take home. Those items cost around $12 – $15, so not bad for sitting in front of my computer for a few minutes each day.
However, I’ll probably redeem my stars in increments of 50 to get a free brewed coffee or bakery item. Those go for around $3 each, so I’ll actually earn about $22 from Starland.
That’s not to mention my raffle entries. I spread them out over the categories.
If you figure that Starbucks was giving out a larger percentage of instant prizes than they were planning, that means there are fewer entries for the raffles. That means a higher chance of winning one of the awards.
Maybe one of us will win one of the big prizes. Someone has to, right?
