A Secure Message To Chase Saved Me $40

It’s understandable if your mind is in a bit of a fog. On the one hand, you’re being told to get back to living your normal life and start going out to dinner, the movies and travel (at least if you live in Florida, that’s what you’re being told.)

On the other hand, you see cases of COVID-19 increasing every day while the number of tests remain about the same. All the while you’re considered an essential employee as you watch your neighbors and customers ignore the requirements to wear face coverings when in public.

In the middle of all of this, I received an email from Chase. I forgot to pay my Chase Ink Cash bill this month.

In between my computer crashing this month, my desk being a mess and just life being in turmoil, there are a few things you need to do when this happens.
The first thing is to make a payment ASAP. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Go online and pay that bill right now.

Once you’ve done that, you can tell the bank the truth.
While I was logged into my account, I sent a secure message to Chase. I explained what happened.

I received a message that I missed a payment. I’m sorry. Things have been so crazy that I misplaced the statement and my computer was in the shop so I missed the payment email. 

I’ve sent the payment today. Thanks for your understanding.

I need to mention that Sharon and I have multiple accounts with Chase and it’s been over a year since I’ve missed any payment.
In less than a day, I received a reply back from Chase.
Hello, Thank you for your efforts in making sure your account is in good standing. I am happy to assist you. I refunded your account for the $39 late fee. You’ll see the credit on your ***** statement. I hope that this helps. We appreciate your business, and thank you for being a Chase customer. Thank you,
For less than 2 minutes of work, and a little eating crow, I saved over $50 in interest and late fees. Obviously, this isn’t something you can do all of the time but hopefully, you’re not in the habit of missing payments.
I have automatic minimum payments set up for most of our accounts just in case something like this happens. I’ll be sure to add that to the Ink Cash.
You should always keep track of your credit card bills and pay off your balances every month to maximize your return on points and miles credit cards. However, we’re all human and sometimes things slip our minds and when that happens, it’s nice to know that the banks can be lenient.
