State Road & Tollway Authority of Georgia to Join E-ZPass Network

Established in 1987, the E-ZPass toll collection system has over 24,000,000 accounts. It’s the largest interconnected toll collecting system in the country.

The long term goal of the E-ZPass Group is to achieve national interoperability of electronic toll collection systems. To date, they either operate tolls or have interoperability in all or part of 19 states.

Soon to be 20.

The E-ZPass Interagency Group recently announced that the State Road and Tollway Authority of Georgia (SRTA) will soon join the E-ZPass network.

PJ Wilkins, Executive Director of the E-ZPass Group, said:

“This news is very exciting, as interoperability along the east coast has long been sought after by the traveling public. Our industry will also be thrilled that we are another step closer to achieving national interoperability of electronic toll collection systems.”

Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority reports that, following updates to their system, interoperability is expected next year.

Chris Tomlinson, Executive Director of Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority said:

“Connecting the dots between Georgia’s tolling system and the systems of the other states within E-ZPass is one of our highest priorities and we look forward to working with the E-ZPass Group to provide our Peach Pass customers with greater options for them to ‘keep moving’ in the near future.”

I remember when I moved from New York to Florida, I could use our E-ZPass as far south as Delaware. After that, we had to use cash for any other tolls we encountered. Having interoperability of toll systems makes things so much more convenient! So hooray for another toll system being added to the fold!
