I Got Punk’d By American Express

a man and girl in a kitchen

I’m not a big fan of practical jokes. I never understood the appeal of making someone go through a hard time just so you and your friends could get a good laugh. I’m slightly more tolerant of April Fool’s jokes when they’re clever, like many of these travel-related ones.

I was just the victim of such a joke from American Express. Actually, it wasn’t a joke, just an honest mistake but for a while, I thought I had totally missed out on one of the biggest deals of 2020.

It all started with an E-mail.

There’s still time to get up to $50 back

Go on AMEX; you have my attention. What $50 have I left on the table?

How did I miss a new AMEX Shop Small offer? Did they relaunch it for the holidays and I just missed it. As I read on, it got even better.

What????? AMEX is letting me register multiple cards for the same offer? This was too good to be true!!

I had a long day at work today and it turns out this was all a dream. Or at least an honest mistake by AMEX.

If I had looked at the fine print, I might have suspected this offer wasn’t supposed to be for me.

So if you live in New Zealand and have an AMEX card, be sure to take advantage of this Shop Small offer to support your local businesses.
