Scottish Group Trying to Change Airport Name To Troll Ex-President Trump

No longer being president, Donald Trump has a lot of spare time on his hands. One would think that he’ll spend some of that time golfing, which should be easy to do since, as of this writing, he owns 19 golf courses under the Trump brand.

One of them, Trump Turnberry in Scotland, has been the focus of some controversy in the country since the ex-president allegedly tried to use his former position to pressure the British Open to host a tournament at his golf course.

Even without that, Trump also has no love lost with Scotland. In the early 2010s, he had ongoing feuds with people who lived near his golf course. He had a lawsuit against the Scottish government regarding a wind farm off the coast of his golf course. He had Scottish conservationists up in arms. And members of the Scottish Parliament are in discussion about opening an investigation regarding how Trump acquired the properties for his golf courses in Scotland.

Most recently, when Trump was considering flying to Scotland to play golf on Inauguration Day, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon gave him a resounding “no.” Scotland is currently under lockdown due to a surge in coronavirus cases, and all non-essential travel is banned. Said Sturgeon:

Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose.

Indeed.

So some Scottish brewers decided to troll Mr. Trump a little bit.

BrewDog is a multinational brewery and pub chain based in Ellon, Scotland. It was founded in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie. They produce several types of lagers and ales and from September 2018 to September 2019, its Punk IPA was the best-selling craft IPA in the United Kingdom.

Watt and Dickie are known for their humor, and, in fact, have trolled Trump in the past – a few months ago they asked their fans to vote on the name of a new beer. Each candidate was inspired by Trump’s inane comments about the horrible wildfires in California:

But back to golf…

As I said, with Trump no longer having presidential duties, he might consider more trips to Turnberry. The airport closest to the resort, which Trump often flies into when arriving in the area, is Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

So what have the people at BrewDog done? They started a petition to change the name of Prestwick.

They want to change the name to “Joe Biden International Airport.”

There’s an online petition at change.org. As of this writing, there are just shy 5,000 signatures (but by the time you read this, it will probably be significantly more).

Of course, I’m sure the suggestion will never be approved. But as admittedly childish and silly as the move is, it’s still kinda genius 😉
