Central Florida Getting Another Theme Park In 2022

Joe and I live in Central Florida, which could well be known as the theme park capital of the world. In the stretch between Tampa and Orlando, you can find large parks such as the four at Walt Disney World and the two at Universal, as well as SeaWorld and Busch Gardens. There are also medium-sized parks, such as Gatorland and LEGOLAND. And there are small parks galore, such as Discovery Cove (although some might call that a water park), Fun Spot, Old Town, and Dinoworld. Plus you’ve got several water parks to choose from, such as Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Aquatica, Volcano Bay, LEGOLAND Water Park, and Adventure Island. No one could ever say we’re lacking for theme parks.

So what are we getting in 2022? Another theme park.

The Orlando Sentinel recently reported that Central Florida will be gaining a “Peppa Pig” themed theme park that will open next year. Peppa Pig is a long running animated series that’s aimed at preschoolers. It’s based in the U.K. but also runs on U.S. TV on the Nick Jr. cable channel.

The park is in the midst of being built in what had been LEGOLAND’s parking lot, in Winter Haven, Florida, about 45 miles southwest of Walt Disney World (if you’re old school, it’s where Cypress Gardens used to be). The theme park will offer rides, interactive attractions and theme playscapes and water play areas. Guests will also have the opportunity to experience live shows and meet and greets with Peppa and her friends.

The new park will be a partnership between Hasbro and Merlin Entertainments. Based in the U.K., Merlin owns several theme park and standalone brands of entertainment in dozens of countries around the world. Along with LEGOLAND, they also own and run Madame Tussauds, The Dungeons, The Eye, Sea Life (all in multiple worldwide locations), Alton Towers (England), Chessington World of Adventure Resort (England), Gardaland Resort (Italy), Heide Park Resort (Germany), Thorpe Park Resort (England), Warwick Castle (England), and more.

Merlin has standalone Peppa Pig World of Play indoor play attractions in Shanghai, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Chicago and Michigan, but this will be the entertainment giant’s first full sized Peppa Pig theme park.

The new park will be open year round and separately ticketed from LEGOLAND. They will also offer annual passes, inclusive passes that will grant admission to all 3 parks on the property (Peppa Pig, LEGOLAND and LEGOLAND Water Park), as well as the other Merlin Entertainments attractions in Central Florida.
