Happy Sunday to all our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, so we’re passing them along.
- A few months ago, Disney loosened its rules about the appearance of park employees and started to allow piercings and tattoos. Many applauded the move to be more inclusive and accepting of those who didn’t fit the typical Disney look. A cynical observer sees it differently and knows that every employer is complaining about how tight the labor markets are right now; why exclude a potential employee due to a tattoo? That’s why I wasn’t surprised to see United remove its rules against piercings and tattoos. Welcome to the 2020s.
- When the 737 MAX was introduced, we avoided it because the seats weren’t comfortable and I hoped they fix that before we were forced to fly on the new plane. Flash forward and it’s no surprise that Ryanair is trying to make the plane even more uncomfortable for passengers.
- One of the best perks of having an American Express card is AMEX offers. These deals give you cash or points back for making purchases with selected companies. At any time, there will usually be one or more offers for hotels. The one downside of the offers is that they are time-sensitive. If you’re not staying at a hotel during the promotion, you’ll lose out unless you use this trick. It’s risky but if you can make it work, it could save you a nice chunk of money.
- When renting a car, there are plenty of ways to save money. One of my favorites is to use Autoslash but there are times you can save even more money by using discount codes. In a money-saving effort, Avis is cracking down on people using discount codes that they’re not eligible for, like putting in a corporate code if you don’t work for the company.
- There are plenty of horror stories from both renters and owners of Airbnb, which is why you should read this before using the service. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Airbnb spends millions of dollars a year to make sure that the worst stories never get told.
