Will The Swan Reserve Open In September? Place Your Bets!

a building with many windows

As a resident of Orlando that lives not that far from Disney World property, it’s been fascinating to follow the development of the Swan Reserve. In December 2018, Marriott formally announced that an expansion to the Swan and Dolphin complex named “The Cove” was being built near the other Marriott Bonvoy hotels. Eventually, the name for the project was changed to “Swan Reserve” which is sure to confuse many people who book rooms at the property only to be dropped off at the Swan hotel located down the street.

During our visits to Disney World, it wasn’t hard to see this hotel would have a hard time meeting the announced opening date. Originally the hotel was accepting bookings for July 2021. Eventually, the hotel quietly pushed back the opening date to September. That left those who had confirmed reservations for August wondering if they’d have a room at Disney since the hotel has been slow to cancel or offer to change reservations to their other properties, as has been reported by several comments to this post.

Once again, the first date for reservations has been pushed back on the hotel website which now is inviting guests to visit in the “Fall of 2021.”

Searching the website, the first day you’re able to book is now September 22 and the only available room is a suite that goes for almost $1,000 a night.

If I were you, I’d stay away since all indications are that the hotel hasn’t been above taking reservations that they have no ability to fulfill over the past 2 months so there’s no reason to assume that the hotel will actually be open.

With all the delays, I’d hope that when the Swan Reserve finally opens that it’s 100% ready for guests and we don’t have to read reviews about how parts of the hotel aren’t finished. With Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary happening on October 1st, I’d imagine the Swan Reserve has plenty of reservations with no overflow capacity at other Marriott hotels so I’d bet they’re trying as hard as possible to have the hotel open before then, ready or not.
