Citi Is Sending Multiple Bonus Offers (For The Same Card)

a group of credit cards

Citi regularly sends out offers for bonus points for spending in selected categories. Previously I’d take advantage of them to earn some extra ThankYou points. Usually, you’ll be able to earn an additional 2,500 or 5,000 Thank You points per offer. It’s not a huge amount but worthwhile considering.

I’ve kept enrolling for the bonuses but haven’t taken full advantage since I used our ThankYou points to book tickets to Iceland.

Maybe Citi noticed that I lost interest because they’ve just sent me two bonus offers for my Citi Premier Card. I currently have the card in my wallet for gas station purchases. The Premier has a decent earning structure, netting 3X ThankYou points in the following categories.

Citi has sent me the following offers.

AND

Earn 5 ThankYou Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 11/30/2021 on eligible purchases at:

Remember, Citi has a strange way of computing bonus points. The common-sense way to look at an offer, like the one for supermarkets, would go like this.

Max 2,500 points. Earn 5X points. Spend $500 to max out the offer.

Citi uses the number of EXTRA points you earn above the usual bonus. Here’s Citi’s math.

Max 2,500 points. Normal earning 3 points. Two extra points per dollar. Spend $1,250 to max out the offer.

For the other offer, where you’d usually earn 1 point, you’re getting an additional 4 points per dollar. That offer you’ll max out at $625.

Final Thoughts

I currently use my American Express Gold Card for supermarket purchases, where I earn 4 Membership Rewards points per dollar. Is it worth it to switch to earn 5 ThankYou points? For us, it makes sense because we have plenty of MR points and I can use the Thank You points.
