TripAdvisor Removed My Hotel Review!

a logo with an owl

I received an email from TripAdvisor today that surprised me for many reasons.

The first thing that caught my attention was the subject line of the email.

Your review for Marriott San Antonio Airport was removed

While I heard TripAdvisor removed reviews when a hotel complained about the content, that wasn’t my concern. I read TripAdvisor but I don’t post there very often. I have a website and whatever I want to tell you about a hotel, I’ll write here. 😉

The email gives the following reason for removing my review and photos:

We would like to let you know that Marriott San Antonio Airport has recently gone through a major renovation. As a result, all reviews and photos posted before the change including yours, have been removed in accordance to our policy.

Thank you for your understanding!

The next confusing thing was that I don’t remember ever staying at the Marriott San Antonio Airport. I can only remember one stay at a San Antonio Airport. It was when we stayed at a Holiday inn Express in 2006.

That’s the hotel in question. The property closed in July 2019 and has undergone a $30 million renovation, rebranded to a Marriott and is due to open in February 2022. It’s no surprise that the management wants to remove any old reviews as they would’t be relevant.

If you’re wondering, I didn’t give the hotel a bad review 15 years ago. The worst thing I said was that it was a little tired and the view of the 410 from the room wasn’t great.

I’m not sad to see my review removed. But really, if you’re going back 15 years to look for hotel reviews on TripAdvisor, you’re doing it wrong.
