Danny Carey, the drummer for the Grammy award-winning rock band, Tool, was arrested last weekend at Kansas City International Airport (MCI). This occurred after he allegedly got into an altercation with a security guard at the airport.
According to a ticket issued by Kansas City Airport Police, Carey, 60, “intentionally inflicted injury” when he allegedly yelled a homophobic slur at the victim, saying “You’re a f**king f****t.” Officers said he yelled the slur repeatedly while jabbing the victim in the chest with two fingers. It’s not known what caused the fight, which happened on Sunday, December 12th.
TMZ obtained video of Carey’s arrest, which occurred outside one of the terminals. Much of its audio is difficult to understand, but you can hear the drummer ask the two police officers multiple times who he assaulted. He’s also heard to say that he’s the drummer for Tool, as well as, “Oh, man,” as he was being handcuffed. He was also told at one point to “quit resisting.”
The other person involved in the altercation was not arrested.
By Monday, Carey had been released on bond. He’s scheduled to be in municipal court on Wed., Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. regarding his assault charge(s).
Born Daniel Edwin Carey, he has been the drummer for Tool since the group’s inception in 1990. Originally from Kansas, Casey had joined the Kansas University Basketball Pep Band at the Missouri vs. Kansas college basketball game earlier in the weekend.
Formed in Los Angeles, Tool is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive metal, psychedelic rock, and art-rock. The group has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping international charts.
According to TMZ, Carey could be fined up to $13,900 for the event.
