When I decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, I wasn’t planning on booking a Club Level room. It was only because of my mistake of initially booking the wrong dates for our trip that left the oceanview room with access to the Grand Club as my only option. With a list price of $1,300 a night, paying the 33,000 World of Hyatt points gave me a value of 4 cents per point.
I’d seen many pictures of the resort and expected it to be nice. I try not to get overly excited about hotels because it’s easy to expect too much and then be disappointed. This was not a problem with the Grand Hyatt.
I’ve already shared my quick review of our stay. In this post, I’ll give you a look at one of the best rooms on the entire property.
Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa
1571 Poipu Road
Koloa, Hawaii
When you arrive at the hotel, you enter the open-air lobby.
Straight ahead is a garden area that houses some resident tropical birds.
Off to the right is the check-in desk. The line to the left of the ropes was designated for World of Hyatt members.
This area is the center of the large complex that contains the Grand Hyatt. From the main area, there is the Poipu wing to the right, which houses the Club Level rooms and the Grand Club. To the left is the Shipwreck wing, which is closest to the pool area and the beach.
Our room was located towards the very end of the Poipu wing and was almost a 10-minute walk to the lobby. We got to know this view very well.
The hotel is designed with each subsequent set of rooms being further out from the lobby and the further you go, the closer you are to the ocean.
Before showing pictures of the room, I want to explain why I’m saying we were in one of the hotel’s best rooms. It’s not a case of hyperbole from myself but because the desk agent told us this while checking out.
After saying our room number, she asked if we enjoyed the view from the room. We said it was amazing, to which she replied that room 5011 is one of her two favorite rooms. She must have seen that we weren’t buying it because she explained why this was true. Before the recent renovation, one of the Presidental suites was room 6012 (I’ve verified this from FlyerTalk posts.). So we had the same view as the best room in the hotel, just one floor lower. This I can believe.
There’s a closet to the left and a bathroom to the right when entering the room. Don’t sleep on that view just outside the window.
I swear that every picture of the room with views of the outside looks like I photoshopped an idyllic Hawaii scene into the background. Besides some slight tweaking, I promise that this is exactly how it looked in person.
The bathroom has two sinks and a large walk-in shower with a rain shower and handheld options.
A pleasant surprise was that bathroom also has a Toto Washlet. We have one of these at home and it’s one of the things we miss the most when traveling.
We had a king-sized bed with two nightstands. The one shortcoming of the design was a lack of plugs on the side of the bed with the phone. It took some time before we eventually found outlets located on the side of the table near the bed.
A table with two chairs provided plenty of space for both of us to set up our computers.
An exceedingly large TV was on the dresser, which had several drawers for storage.
The room also has a Nespresso coffee maker and a fridge (in the cabinet below). One thing missing was bottles of water. Instead, the Grand Hyatt provides refillable water bottles that you can fill at one of the many stations located all around the property and are yours to keep after your stay.
Sharon and I are not usually the type to sit out on our veranda. However, these chairs kept calling our names.
Thanks to jet lag, we had no problem waking up to see the sunrise the first morning of our stay. You can see the colors slowly change just before the actual sunrise—yellow and orange start to creep over the horizon.
Then suddenly, a bright light shoots over the ocean.
We woke up before sunrise every morning of our stay. I have way too many pictures taken from this veranda.
Every once in a while we stay somewhere which blows us away. This was one of those places and I haven’t even gotten to the hotel grounds, Grand Club, restaurants, pools and beaches. This was enough pictures for one post.
