The Comp Trick Worked And We’re Going Back To Vegas

It’s been five years since we’ve been to Las Vegas. Even then, we only stayed for three nights. At the time, I went over all of our different hotel options and eventually stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacations on Paradise in a 1-bedroom suite.

However, there’s still one place in Vegas that I’ve wanted to stay since I was a kid. Inside the Luxor pyramid.

Heck, I know there are places in Las Vegas that are nicer, newer, and more luxurious. I could look to stack some offers from a credit card with a bonus point offer (like I did last time.) However, I’m happy with plan A and don’t have plans to keep looking for something better.

This journey started when I received an offer from Park MGM for two comp room nights. If you look, it’s obvious I did nothing to earn these comps.

I clicked through the offer and even though I needed to book by the end of March,  I could book any time through 2/28/2023.

While we have plans for the summer already set, the fall is wide open. I’d also like to wait until then for the weather to cool down. Besides Park MGM, I could get comps and discounted rates at most MGM resorts. The only one I was interested in was Luxor. I was eligible for up to three comp nights.

Looking for dates that worked for us, I found two free weekdays (and a third for $13.) I tacked on a Friday night, which cost $100 because if we were going to Vegas, we might as well make a trip out of it.

At the end of the day, we will pay less than $300 for four nights at Luxor, staying in one of the pyramid rooms.

12-year-old me is very happy.

And congrats to the MGM Rewards executive who decided to email infrequent visitors to offer comp rooms. Sure, it’s easy to get your loyal customers to come back, but if you haven’t been to Las Vegas in a while, getting a discounted room might be the thing to get you to make another trip.

And I’m sure that the money we spend on meals, shows and a little gambling will make up for what they’re losing with the discounted room rate.
