CLEAR Announces Expansion, With 6th Airport In California

Depending on the airport, CLEAR has become something of a great time saver. I mean, TSA PreCheck was a game changer when it was introduced in 2013. But over the years, more people have paid to become part of the Trusted Traveler program. So although the lines for PreCheck still aren’t nearly as bad as those of the regular line, they’re still getting longer and you can occasionally see 10-15 minutes waits during the busiest times of year.

CLEAR isn’t as popular as PreCheck. It’s understandable…it’s a private entity and costs a whole lot more. Some people are still a little turned off by their using biometric data. So although CLEAR give out free limited-time memberships like they were going out of style, the lines are still usually pretty minimal.

I’ll admit that I’m not an airport 😉 so I don’t know how CLEAR and airports get together to make the decision that CLEAR will be set up at Airport A but not Airport B. All I know is that since being founded in 2010, they’ve set up shop in 40 airports.

Well, better make that 41 – CLEAR recently announced they’re expanding again, this time to Ontario International Airport (ONT). It’s CLEAR’s 6th airport in California.

“CLEAR’s entry into the Ontario International Airport advances our continued commitment to outstanding customer service. We know our customers will appreciate the way CLEAR’s secure identity technology and expedited lanes help make travel more predictable and less stressful, and we’re pleased to welcome them to ONT,” said Alan D. Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners and Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Ontario.

“Expanding our footprint to more airports in the Golden State has been an important priority as we continue working toward our vision for a world of frictionless experiences and journeys,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “Our launch at ONT reflects our commitment to our members, airports and communities across California, and we look forward to continued growth in the months and years ahead.”

CLEAR already serves all 10 of ONT’s top 10 domestic destinations. The launch is expected to create 23 jobs and generate $2.2 million in local economic activity.

CLEAR can currently be found at airports in the following cities:

It’s also present at several stadiums and other venues nationwide.
