LinkedIn is an American business and employment-oriented online service that operates via websites and mobile apps. Launched on May 5, 2003, the platform is primarily used for professional networking and career development, and allows job seekers to post their CVs (Curriculum Vitae – a short written summary of a person’s career, qualifications, and education) and employers to post jobs.
As of this writing, there are 875 million LinkedIn members, along with over 58 million registered companies, in over 200 countries and territories worldwide. Granted, not all of them are active members but that’s still a whole lot of people and places.
Anyway, not that long ago, LinkedIn released its rankings of the Top Companies in Travel & Hospitality for 2022.
Here’s their methodology of how they made their picks.
Here’s the full list:
1. Expedia Group
2. American Airlines
3. Delta Airlines
4. Marriott Vacations Worldwide
5. Delaware North
6. United Airlines
7. Priceline
8. Southwest Airlines
9. Spirit Airlines
10. Mandarin Oriental
11. British Airlines
12. Aimbridge Hospitality
13. Hard Rock International
14. JetBlue
15. Hilton Grand Vacations
16. Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa
17. Soho House
18. OTG
19. ARIA Resort & Casino
20. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts
21. TAO Group
22. Hilton
23. Alaska Airlines
24. Wynn Las Vegas
25. Frontier Airlines
All told, of the 25 top travel brands:
- 1 brand represented hotel management
- 2 were timeshares arms of well-known hotel brands
- 2 were OTAs (online travel agency)
- 4 offered food/beverage service
- 7 were hotel (or hotel & casino)/hospitality brands
- 9 were airlines/aviation brands
Of course, since it’s LinkedIn, the list is mainly supposed to be a reference for workplace careers. But, of course, the best places to work usually spill over into the best companies to deal with as a customer, as well ( OK, OK…one of the obviously outliers to that was Frontier Airlines – they may be a great employer, but as an airline? Overall, meh, LOL!). So even if you’ve never heard of some of the companies on the list, you may have still experienced their workers such as hotel bars employed by Soho House, OTG, etc.
When the list was released on LinkedIn News, there were, of course, all sorts of comments. Both positive and negative views were represented:
- Not the Southwest Airlines Flight Simulation Department. It’s toxic and makes it not enjoyable to even go to work. – J.Q.
- It is exciting to see Aimbridge on this list – and truly believe we will keep rising! – K.K. (who identified herself as VP Talent @ Aimbridge Hospitality)
- What a joke!!. The Airlines are at their worst right now. Likewise MVW has taken advantage of the Covid epidemic to lower the level of hospitality that I bought into, first in 2013, and multiple times since then. – G.P.S.
- So proud to be a part of Expedia Group and seeing it make #1 on this list. Absolutely amazing. <3 – B.S. (respondent’s initials were just a coincidence, I promise!)
- Delta is partnering with Air France. I lost my luggages [sic] and no one seems to care. I lost thousands of donation for human relief. I lost all my belongings. The only help I got is WAIT and WAIT. I am discussed by the lack of empathy and carelessness.
If this is one of the best airline, what would be the worst? – H.B.A.
- Marriott Vacations Worldwide is a great company, with great brands, great service and fabulous associate opportunities! – J.M. (who identified himself as the GM of a Marriott Vacations Worldwide location)
What do you think of the list?
