While airports used to treat pathways between terminals as purely utilitarian areas means to move people from one place to the other, many of them are now using the large spaces for art installations.
Some of them are visual displays, like the 450-foot “Flight Paths” in the underground connector between Terminals A & B at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
However, other airports prefer informative displays about their hometown. I found several of these as I traveled between terminals at Philadelphia International Airport.
The first one was based on Philadelphia International Records which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
Next was a display called “Making The Accordion Great Again” which focused on a local accordion shop, Liberty Bellows.
The last display I saw was along a moving walkway and featured many of the feature films that were shot in and around Philadelphia. Of course, Rocky and Rocky II were prominently featured.
The Philadelphia Airport has a dedicated page on its website for the airport’s art displays, including an archive of past exhibits.
WTG Philadelphia airport for making the walk between terminals entertaining and informative.
