Virgin Hotels opened its first location in Chicago in 2015. Described as a “luxury lifestyle hospitality brand,” Virgin Hotels wants to offer unique experiences at each location. Management seems to be in no hurry to expand; after 8 years, there are currently seven locations, with another hotel due to open in the next 1-2 months.
However, guests now have access to a greater selection of luxury travel destinations as the Virgin Group has created a new parent brand called Virgin Hotels Collection.
This will include Virgin Hotels and Virgin Limited Edition, the private global collection of hotels and exclusive islands owned by Richard Branson.
I knew about Necker Island and Moskito Island from blogger reviews, but I didn’t know that Richard Branson has properties around the globe open for guests.
It’s an impressive list.
- Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, South Africa
- Kasbah Tamadot, Morocco
- The Lodge, Verbier, Switzerland
- Mahali Mzuri Safari Camp, Kenya
- Mont Rochelle Hotel & Vineyard, South Africa
- Son Bunyola Estate, Mallorca
If you want to stay with points, you can book a stay at a Virgin Limited Edition property on the Virgin Red website. You can transfer points 1:1 between Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Red.
The newly created Virgin Hotels Collection brings both brands under the same management, with the CEO of Virgin Hotels becoming the CEO of the combined hotel group. I’m interested to see if Virgin starts promoting its lesser-known high-end locations to a broader audience. There’s little inventory to sell as the locations have 10-30 rooms.
