MIA Wheelchair Agent Tells Rude Pax She Can Walk to TSA Checkpoint

Airline wheelchair agents (a.k.a. airline wheelchair assistants, a.k.a. pre-boarding services) have a TOUGH job. They’re there to provide wheelchairs and push passengers who can’t make it through the airport on their own. However besides making relatively little money (according to Indeed.com, $10/hr in AL, $12.50/hr in FL, $15/hr in CA, $17/hr in AK, $18/hr in NYC), you’re stuck dealing with a lot of issues. You may be required to push more than one passenger (and their carry-on, personal bag and potentially adaptive equipment) at once. You may get tips to help supplement your wage, or you may not. And, worst of all, you may get stuck with a passenger who thinks “agents” or “assistants” are another word for “servant.”

The latter may be the case for an airline wheelchair agent working out of Miami International Airport (MIA). He appears to have had the unfortunate opportunity to push a foulmouthed, verbally abusive woman around the airport when she wanted to get to the TSA checkpoint. She videotaped her “ride.”

After several minutes, the man eventually decided to not take the woman’s abuse anymore, and left her. She complained to another representative from the wheelchair agent company, this time a female, and demanded to be brought to the checkpoint.

She was as abusive to the woman as she had been to the guy who had been pushing her. However this lady WAS NOT taking it and within a minute told this foul mouth passenger that she would need to walk to the checkpoint.

Here’s the video:

We have no other information about the video; not when it was made or the names of the people involved. We only know it happened at MIA because a friend who flies out of that airport on a somewhat regular basis was able to confirm same via visualization.

The video was posted on Facebook the other day and the comments were not surprising. Here are some highlights:

A few people suggested they recognized her voice from other videos (fast food places? Trying to get a Wakanda toy from a McDonald’s Happy Meal? Anyone?) and that her attitude is always like that.
Another a handful suggested the video was fake.
To be honest, I think I agree with them, simply because despite all the abuse she threw out, no authority figure was ever called.
That being said, IF it was real, I’d love to know what happened next – was she actually able to walk to Checkpoint 3 on her own? How did she get to her gate? And did her attitude change enough where they allowed her onto the plane?
The world may never know…
