Time’s Running Out To Take Advantage Of Discover 5% On Digital Wallets

Discover cards offer 5% back on categories that rotate every 3 months. Some months the bonus categories aren’t any better than what I can get with other credit cards, while other times I can earn cash back in categories not available with other cards.

For July to September of 2023, Discover offered 5% cash back on Gas Stations and Digital Wallets.

I already earn a better return on Gas Stations with my Wyndham Earner Business card but the chance to earn 5% anywhere where I could use Apple Pay was enough for me to know I could maximize this offer.

The first place I started to pay with my phone was at our vet when we boarded Dobby the Poodle when we were on vacation.

Typically we only earn 2% cash back on these expenses so I was glad to get more than double the amount back by using Apple Pay with my Discover card (even if their system said it was a Union Pay card.)

The next place I used Apple Pay with my Discover was at the auto dealership when I paid for the usual maintenance on my car. This is another place I’ll usually get 1.5X points with my Freedom Unlimited or 2% cash back.

It wasn’t difficult to max out the $75 back this quarter.

If you haven’t already maxed out the $1,500 in spending this quarter, you have a few days left to earn the max $75 back.

I have a hard time believing that I can get up to $300 back from a Discover card each year, with no annual fee.
