Which Credit Card Is The Best For Hyatt Stays?

a building with palm trees and a parking lot

When you’re getting ready to stay at a Hyatt property, you have a decision to make. Which credit card is the best one to use to pay for your stay? If you’re prepaid for your room (which I don’t recommend), you want to put the right card on your account to pay for incidentals and anything you charge to your room during your stay.

Here are some of your options and the pros/cons of each:

World of Hyatt Visa

If you have Hyatt’s co-brand credit card, the World of Hyatt Visa from Chase, it’s a solid option for you to pay for your stay. The World of Hyatt card earns 4X points per $1 spent with Hyatt hotels and resorts, including at participating restaurants and participating locations that are owned, managed, franchised or licensed by Hyatt Corporation or its subsidiaries or affiliates.

This is the quickest way to rack up Hyatt points, and since Hyatt points are one of the more valuable currencies, this is a good return for your spending.

However, earning World of Hyatt points locks you into one program. You have to earn enough points for a redemption and depending on how often you stay at Hyatt properties, that could be a while.

Travel Card Earning Transferrable Points

There are plenty of cards in this category that earn 3X points for hotel expenses:

While you’re giving up 1 point per dollar spent, you gain the flexibility to use the points where you need them most.

If you earn Chase Ultimate Rewards, you’re able to instantly transfer points to World of Hyatt when you need them.

Booking Through Travel Portal For Bonus Points

This is how you can earn the most points for your hotel stays.

These bookings may require you to prepay for your stay so check the terms carefully for the cancellation policy. In addition, stays booked through travel portals will not earn points or stay credits and guests will not receive benefits based on status. This could be a deal breaker, depending on the hotel and your status level. I wouldn’t want to give up a suite upgrade and free breakfast at a resort, but it might not matter for a stay at an airport Hyatt Place.

Final Thoughts

When we used our free night certificates to stay at Gild Hall in Manhattan, there wasn’t a charge for the room. However, we did charge our hotel breakfast to the room, and I paid with the World of Hyatt card. That’s what we did, but there are advantages to all three options. It depends on what your needs are to meet your goals. You do have travel goals.
