When it comes to politics, businesses often adopt a neutral stance to avoid controversies that might affect their public image. One way that businesses try to stay out of politics is by avoiding any kind of political endorsement or affiliation. This can be achieved by refraining from supporting any particular candidate, party, or ideology that might alienate a section of their customer base. Another way that businesses try to stay out of politics is by not taking a stance on controversial issues that might divide public opinion.

In addition to possibly upsetting customers, businesses also need to be mindful of the potential impact of their political views on lawmakers and regulators who make decisions about laws and regulations that could impact their operations. Taking a stance on a political issue could put a business in a difficult position, especially if it goes against the views of lawmakers who hold the power to regulate their industry. For example, a small restaurant in a conservative area might choose to display news channels like Fox News or Newsmax, while a restaurant in a more liberal area might choose to display news channels like CNN or MSNBC. Nonetheless, large corporations generally aim to maintain a neutral public image when it comes to politics in order to avoid any negative impact on their operations.

It can be challenging for businesses located in Washington D.C. to completely ignore the Capitol and the White House, given that their customer base may be largely involved in politics. After all, these iconic buildings are located just around the corner or down the street from most businesses in the area.

Located in the lobby are two televisions. One of them is showing Fox News and the other is tuned to CNN. This way, no matter which news you wish to view, they have you covered. And to make sure that there’s no competition with the volume, both televisions are set to mute with Closed Captioning activated.

It was like this all the time—24/7 news in the lobby from two television networks. I guess that’s one way to solve the problem of which station to show. One way to make a decision is to choose not to decide.
