Clear Expands to More Airports: Bypass TSA Lines with Biometric ID

a group of blue and white machines

Clear is a service that’s available at many airports in the United States. It’s a way to bypass the long lines that you typically have to wait in to show your ID to a TSA agent. With Clear, you can use facial, iris and fingerprint biometrics to verify your identity and pass through security more quickly. While it used to be a great way to save time, especially when combined with TSA Precheck, the lines for Clear have gotten longer as more people have enrolled in the program. Despite this, some travelers still love the service, while others loathe it and prefer to stick with the traditional ID check process.

In addition, Clear isn’t everywhere. Although they’re present at most of the busiest airports in the US, they’re not available at every, or even more airports’ checkpoints. Clear stations are typically located near the airlines that have invested in the program, such as Delta and United.

The last time I checked which airports were served by Clear, they were at all of the top 10 busiest locations and 18 of the top 20. The main exceptions were Philadelphia and Charlotte, which are both American Airlines captive hub cities.

The busiest airports without Clear were:

Since then, Clear has added locations, including Raleigh/Durham and Kansas City.

They’ve also recently added Clear checkpoints at these airports.

So while Clear may not be everywhere and might not always be the quickest way through the security line, there are now more airports where you can use a different way to get through the TSA ID check process.
