Planning a vacation can be a whole lot of fun. In fact, some people say the anticipation can be as good as the actual travel. But they’re wrong – the actual TRIP is always the best. And the more photos you can take, the better.
Sometimes though, those vacation photos can be a little…wonky? Unusual? Nah, just plain bad. Could be totally your fault, or something that you had no control over whatsoever. But those really bad photos wind up being stories unto themselves.
Case in point – pocketbook man at the Palace of Versailles. It was the mid-90s and Joe and I, who were “just friends” at the time, went to London and Paris with some other friends. I don’t remember if we planned it this way or not, but it was a day that the fountains were running.
I wanted us to get a shot of as much of the main fountain as we could, preferably with as few people in the way as possible. Unfortunately, there was an older man, hold a pocketbook (maybe his wife’s? his own? I dunno), and at the edge of the fountain and he just WOULD NOT MOVE. We stood there for a good 15 minutes, waiting for this guy to be on his way. But no…he just stood there, watching the fountains, ruining our picture. So we finally took a horrible picture of us and the old guy…
…As well as of the old guy himself. And his pocketbook.
And here it is almost 30 years later, and we still tell that story.
Other people have had much worse photo ops. They’ve been found all over the internet. Take a look…
