Daily Getaways Stinks Now, But They Do Have One Good Deal This Year

It wasn’t long ago when the Daily Getaways deals were a Very. Big. Deal. Besides other travel-related opportunities, you had a chance to purchase points at a nice discount, and then use them to pay for travel.

I’m not the first to say the Daily Getaways offers have become a shadow of their former selves. I remember when I purchased tickets to SeaWorld for 50% off (they’re now only 40% off and, of course, ticket prices have increased from $100 a few years ago to $139, if you buy them at the gate), and got a bigger discount on IHG points and tried to get Hyatt points (emphasis on the word “tried” – why offer a great deal on points if you’re only going to offer it to 3 people? They’ve been pulling that crap for years).

Nowadays I can buy discounted SeaWorld tickets by enrolling in their e-mail alerts, and IHG sells points at the same price as Daily Getaways.

Yet I am I thinking about buying IHG points from today’s Daily Getaways sale.

Why?

Volume!

It’s not what you can get, but how much you can potentially get.

Max. Quantity per Purchase: Five (5). No more than five (5) packages of points purchased through this offer are allowed per loyalty number. A maximum of (16) packages of points is allowed per loyalty number across all IHG offers.

You can purchase 500,000 IHG points if you so desire. That’s not all. If packages are still available, you can also purchase 5 of the 50,000-point deals, netting you a total of 750,000 points for $3,750.

I’m sure you’re asking what anyone would do with 3/4 of a million IHG points. There’s plenty you could do. Maybe you’d like to stay a few nights at an IHG hotel in Manhattan, which costs $400+ a night and can be booked for 60-70K points. If you have an IHG co-brand card with either a 10% rebate on redeemed points or a fourth-night free benefit, your points are worth even more.

Daily Getaways purchases don’t count towards your annual maximum points purchase allowance of 150,000 IHG points, so it’s an easy way to replenish the points we paid to stay at the Miami Intercontinental.

Daily Getaways is not the discount mecca it once was; the discounts have been cut year by year and it’s starting to look straggly around the edges. But if you’re looking for a way to purchase more points than IHG usually allows, Daily Getaways is one of the best options at the moment.
