Chase began the Pay Yourself Back program in June 2020 to allow cardholders to redeem Ultimate Rewards points for expenses. It was initially introduced to keep users interested in earning points during the pandemic. Chase reduced the program in 2023, as travel resumed. Nonetheless, the feature remains, albeit with lower bonuses and limited categories.
While Pay Yourself Back was originally only available on Chase branded cards that earn Ultimate Rewards (or cash back in the form of UR points), it’s now available on several co-brand cards. These include the Southwest Rapid Rewards, Air Canada Aeroplan and United MileagePlus families of cards. The redemption categories vary, with Air Canada letting you use points to erase any travel expense, while United only lets you erase flights purchased directly from the airline.
Chase has added another co-brand card family to Pay Yourself Back. Disney Visa cardholders can now erase charges using their Disney Reward Dollars.
Disney Visa Pay Yourself Back
The Disney Visa and Disney Premier Visa now have access to a Pay Yourself Back portal. Once logged into your account, go to the page with your rewards balance. Previously, the only option was to transfer your rewards to a Disney Rewards Redemption Card (which was like a gift card good at Disney locations.) Now you’ll also have an option for Pay Yourself Back.
What Are The Categories?
The only category where Disney Visa cardholders can use points is to erase Disney purchases.
Select U.S. Disney locations in Disney Parks and Resorts (for a list of Disney locations, visit DisneyRewards.com/Where-To-Redeem), Disney store and outlet locations in the U.S., shopDisney.com, and at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com and ESPNPlus.com
Like the other Pay Yourself Back cards, you can look back 90 days to erase charges. Chase has done a nice thing by letting cardholders look back before the option was added to the card. For example, I can use my points to erase a charge from when we visited Epcot in January.
What’s The Difference From Using A Redemption Card?
The process of using a Disney Redemption Card was somewhat complicated. You had to remember to transfer funds from your rewards balance to your card before using them. You also needed a physical card to use the funds to pay for purchases.
When using Pay Yourself Back, you don’t have to do any of that. All you need to do is pay your bill with your Disney Visa card. Then you can go online and use your rewards balance to erase the amount due. This also makes it easier if you’d like to use a mobile wallet instead of carrying around a card.
Final Thought
While adding the ability to Pay Yourself Back for Disney purchases with the Disney Visa and Disney Premier Visa doesn’t add any options for your points, it’s a positive addition nonetheless. Instead of needing to load a reward card from your balance, this makes it easier to redeem points for all your Disney purchases, including Disney Plus or the Disney Streaming Bundle.
