When you go to an airport, the TSA is pretty strict about what happens at the security checkpoint. However, some aspects of the screening are, shall we say, vague.
Hats? Yes? No? Maybe so?
Take hats, for example. The TSA mentions head coverings but only in terms of religion (i.e., a wimple, burqa, pagri, etc.):
They say “Persons wearing head coverings, loose-fitting or bulky garments may undergo additional security screening, which may include a pat-down. A pat-down will be conducted by a TSA officer of the same gender. If an alarm cannot be resolved through a pat-down, you may ask to remove the head covering in a private screening area.”
I guess the same rules would apply if you were wearing a hat? Or maybe not, because I’ve worn a bucket hat and have sometimes (but not always) been told to take it off before going through the screening machine.
Anyway, a couple of years ago, a woman named Brinta was at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, traveling back home to Houston. It looked as if she made it through the TSA screening machine OK but then had to go through secondary screening because she was wearing a baseball cap.
What happened next
Just like they had done with my bucket hat, the TSA agents asked Brinta to take off her baseball cap. She apparently wasn’t expecting that to happen since her cap…also had her wig attached.
Her friend was there to videotape the adventure, which, of course, Brinta posted on Instagram.
“When TSA stops you from being fabulous,” she captioned the clip.
“TSA: You have to remove the hat.
Me: Are you serious? No, you can’t be!
TSA: Yes, I have to check underneath the hat.
Me: But, it’s a WIG”
And let me tell you – that TSA officer was FAST in checking that hat out – less than 5 seconds later, it was back on Brinta’s head. WTG, TSA officer! 😉
Happily, Brinta had a good sense of humor – which you can kinda tell from the very beginning since her hat said “Bad Hair Day” LOL! And you can tell even more because she laughed through the whole process ;-).
This whole thing happened back in 2021 (sorry not sorry; I just “discovered” it now) and apparently Snoop Dogg was even among the viewers who shared the video to their pages after he posted it to his grid. “All head, no cap,” he captioned the clip with laughing emojis.
Just another random thing on the internet to make people smile…
