The new overlook, the 5th one the airport has opened since 1937, offers awesome views of runways (specifically runway 18C/36C and the future Fourth Parallel Runway) as well as informational exhibits and a displayed retired U.S. military fighter jet, an F4 Phantom II that flew during the Vietnam War and Cold War. There’s also 600,000 square feet of play space for little ones who may not yet be so “aviationly inclined.” Other amenities include:
- Covered picnic tables and food truck area
- Paved car and bus parking, including accessible parking
- Shaded areas featuring benches, trees and sails
- Restrooms with baby changing stations
- Pet relief areas
- Bicycle racks
“We see this as a community amenity. This is about the airport giving back to the community, to engage with the airport in a manner that they want to,” airport officials said.
Starting today, the deck will be open daily from 8 am to 10 pm. Admission is free. Those who are searching for it via GPS or rideshare can input the address of 5130 Airport Overlook Drive.
