What Does The Cosmopolitan’s Identity Program Merging with MGM Rewards Mean for Visitors?

In September 2021, the operating rights for The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas were sold to MGM. While a casino hotel property on the Las Vegas Strip changing hands isn’t earth-shattering news, the web of partnerships took a while to untangle. The first one of importance to people who care about hotel points was that The Cosmopolitan would keep using the Identity program instead of switching to MGM’s casino loyalty program. In addition, the hotel would continue its partnership with the Marriott Bonvoy program, while MGM’s other casinos in Las Vegas remained partners with the World of Hyatt Program.

This part of the deal became less of an issue when MGM and World of Hyatt parted ways in 2023. We’ve now learned that the Cosmopolitan Identity program will be discontinued on July 30, 2024.

Identity Rewards Merges into MGM Rewards On July 30, 2024

Identity members will have their points and tier status folded into the MGM Rewards program, with a special bonus for play over the past year.

Members can confidently continue to play and earn at The Cosmopolitan with Identity, knowing their Identity Tier Points earnings will be doubled. These Identity Points will be converted into MGM Rewards Tier Credits as of July 30, 2024. On July 30, members will receive a one-time adjustment of this total as MGM Rewards Tier Credits based on:

The Identity Tier Points earned between July 30, 2023 – July 29, 2024 will be doubled plus an Identity Table Play Bonus amount* based on table play from July 30, 2023 – July 29, 2024 (if any). This total will be converted into a one-time adjustment of MGM Rewards Tier Credits that is added to your MGM Rewards account.

This one-time adjustment of MGM Rewards Tier Credits will be combined with any existing MGM Rewards Tier Credits to determine your MGM Rewards Tier Status through January 31, 2026. Continue earning MGM Rewards Tier Credits through December 31, 2024 to advance your MGM Rewards Tier Status for the following year!

If you are currently a member of Identity Rewards, the FAQ about converting to MGM Rewards can be found at https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/identity/faqs.

Final Thought

During my short trip to Las Vegas, I did enjoy my time at The Cosmopolitan. I liked the vibe of the hotel and strongly recommend having breakfast at The Henry.

For those who visited The Cosmopolitan frequently over the past year, getting double-tier credits should help them earn status with MGM Rewards if they don’t already have it. For me, the 150 points I earned from breakfast and playing slots while waiting for my table will become 300 MGM Rewards points.
