JFK’s Gameway Lounge Opens Today

a group of people in a large airport

Historically, when a new lounge opened in an airport, it would typically be connected to a specific airline (i.e., Delta or KrisFlyer lounge) and/or credit card (like Amex Centurion Lounges). In recent years, lounges that aren’t tied to specific airlines or cards, such as Plaza Premium or The Club, have popped up for those who might not have status or even the “right” credit card to gain entry.

Regardless of the type of lounge, they all offer roughly the same thing – a quiet(er) place to sit, free snacks and beverages, usually a bar, etc.

But in the past few years, a totally different type of lounge has started to show up – a lounge devoted to gaming. It’s called Gameway Lounge. And one just opened at JFK today, in Terminal 8.

Gameway lounges started popping up in 2018. Its first 2 lounges were at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (Terminals B and E) and since then they’ve expanded to show their presence at Los Angeles International Airport (Terminals 3 and 6), Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (near Gate 6), and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (near gate 36).

“Gameway is the world’s first premium video game lounge located in airports,” says the website. “Based on how much time you have until your next flight, you can enjoy a first class video game experience to make time fly by.”

Gameway lounges typically have multiple luxury consoles and PC gaming stations, so gamers can play to their heart’s content. The JFK location has 9 individual gaming stations – each one is equipped with a PlayStation or Xbox console, a 43″ 4K TV, premium gaming headphones, charging ports, and luggage space. The lounge also includes eight high-performance gaming PCs paired with Corbeau gaming chairs and high-speed internet.

Gameway lounges also have an ample supply of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks for purchase. They also offer RetroZone® Bar, where travelers can relax with craft beers and classic video games.

The JFK Gameway lounge will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., 365 days a year (with possible slight hour adjustments during seasonal holidays or based on flight times). Pricing starts at $17.99 for up to 30 minutes of play, $27.99 for up to an hour, and $45.99 for unlimited sessions. A 10% military discount is also available.

Oh, and if you have a Priority Pass membership, it may provide access to JFK’s Gameway Lounge. Access through some American Express and Capital One cards may not be available at this Gameway location

Additional lounges are planned for JFK Terminal 5, Chicago Midway, and Baltimore/Washington International in 2025.
