About 6 or 7 months after the first rumors started to come out, Tavistock Development Company and WiBit Sport have finally officially announced that the Central Florida region will be getting a new water park next summer!
Called Nona Adventure Park, the adventure-based water sports park will be located in Lake Nona, Florida, which is an area just southeast of Orlando International Airport and about 30 minutes east of Walt Disney World (via the 417/Greeneway).
The park will boast the first solar-powered water ski and wakeboard cable park in the world, as well as Central Florida’s very first inflatable aqua park, a 60-foot climbing tower with a ropes course and climbing walls, a pro shop featuring equipment rentals and sales, and an upscale café. It’s suggested that all skill sets will be accommodated so you won’t have to be a huge water sports aficionado in order to have a fun day there.
As per a press release: “The park will be open throughout the year for visitors and spectators, and will be designed to host competitions as well as group, corporate team building and special events. Different passes will be available so that guests can access individual amenities or the whole park. Through the WakeSys control system, park guests will receive an RFID wristband to access the park’s amenities. The system will also allow guests to check in online, review wait times, and see if friends are onsite.”
Here’s a little more about each of the announced activities:
- Inflatable Aqua Park: A large-scale Wit aqua park with multiple, interconnected inflatables and obstacles such as floating pathways, climbing obstacles, slides and trampolines.
- Climbing tower: A 60-foot tower from KristallTurm with challenges and obstacles, including a kids rope area for ages 5-10.
- Water sports cable park: Using a Rixen cable system, this will provide wakeboard and ski riders a realistic feel of being pulled behind a boat. The cable system, one that is 2,500 feet in length and another at 320 feet, can reach speeds of 36 mph and can accommodate up to 10 riders at a time.
Nona Adventure Park will be located on Adventure Lake adjacent to the City of Orlando’s Laureate City Park, in Lake Nona’s Laureate Park neighborhood. The park will be interconnected with Lake Nona’s 44 miles of trails, and discounts will be offered to guests who elect not to drive and rather walk, bike or skate to the park.
Prices and exact date of opening are expected to be announced at a later time.
