If you’ve traveled through Orlando International Airport (MCO) in recent months, you know that it’s been going through a LOT of construction. Besides being in the midst of building Terminal C (its much-needed garage is already ready and in use!), the walkways between the two X-ray areas have been updated and the ticket lobbies and monorails are in the midst of renovations, as well. Some of the airport’s eateries are also going through some changes; for example, a Firehouse Subs opened at the main terminal food court last week.
However the renovation news that excited me most came from MCO’s Twitter the other day.
The Starbucks in the airport’s main atrium has been closed for the past 5-6 months, as has the Hudson Booksellers next door to it. The space has been under renovation to combine the two spaces and turn it into a Starbucks Evenings. Happily, it reopened this past Saturday.
Starbucks Evenings began in select locations a few years ago as a way to get more people into Starbucks during the evening hours by selling beer, wine and small plates from 4pm until closing time. It rolled out at 7 locations (including Downtown Disney’s West Side – now part of the Disney Springs complex) and at its peak, was available at 400 Starbucks around the United States. Things didn’t work out as well as expected and the “Evenings” program ended in early 2017, with plans to integrate it with its premium “Roastery” stores.
Despite this, as per MCO’s Twitter (and one photo that says as much), the new, larger spot is indeed being described as a Starbucks Evenings and although wine and craft beer are not available just yet (it’s expected that will start very soon), it’s finally open for coffee and other familiar Starbucks drinks and snacks.
And all was right with my world 😉
