Know Where You’re Going But Need Help With An Itinerary? Try Visitacity!

by SharonKurheg

Everyone has a bucket list of where they want to go. New York! Paris! London! Tokyo! Sydney! But once you start planning that once-in-a-lifetime trip, you discover there’s so much to do that you can’t decide your schedule. Or maybe you’re really good at saving up miles or cash for a flight but aren’t the best at the details and logistics of what to do every day of your travel. Well, apparently there’s a website to help you with that.

Visitacity.com touts itself as an online, personalized travel guide that gives suggestions of what to visit, where to eat, where to sleep, etc. in 3500+ cities around the world, all based on how many days you want to spend there. Want to go to New York for a long weekend? Or to Paris for 5 days? Visitacity can help you with your entire itinerary. From their website:

Visit A City is all about the fun of planning the details of your trip. We believe that your own personal trip requires you to have your own personal travel guide.

Starting with one of our adjustable guides is the easiest way to decide what to do, where to dine and where to put your head down after an enjoyable day.

Planning a trip was never this easy!

The cities and plans are very Europe-heavy, but there are still plenty of non-European destinations to choose from. Suggestions from other travelers are included, to give you a better idea if a particular tourist spot or hotel is best for you and what you want out of a vacation, and you can change plans as much as you want. Plus you can print your plans onto paper or view it from any device, which makes for convenience.

After you decide what city you’d like to visit, you can look at different activities for the town, which, of course, varies depending upon the destination. So for Orlando, your choices are for theme parks, cruises/water tours, and family-friendly places, whereas for London your options are more in line with museums, shows and parks/gardens.

Visitacity even has vacation tips such as:

  • Trip planning
  • Smart packing tips
  • Eating and drinking in Europe
  • Cell phone usage across Europe
  • Money tips for traveling in Europe
  • Traveling to Europe with kids
  • Sightseeing and activities in Europe
  • Train travel and rail passes in Europe
  • Driving in Europe

(I told you they were very Europe-heavy, LOL!)

To check out how accurate Visitacity was, I tried putting in Orlando, since I live there. It gave me options of Things to Do, Attractions, the number of days I would want to spend there, Travel Tips and a Tourist Map. It also gave me an idea of what some of the more popular guides have been, based on past users.

To see what kind of variety they would offer, I chose the Orlando in Six Days Family Itinerary. Here’s what they offered for each day:

DAY 1

DAY 2 (I don’t know why the map didn’t load on this page. I gave it a good 5 minutes and subsequent maps did load. Only this one didn’t)

DAY 5

DAY 6

The 6-day Family Itinerary certainly suggests a lot of places that would be good for kids and offers a nice variety. I found it interesting that although they include 1 day at Universal, Sea World and even Gatorland, they don’t suggest going to Walt Disney World at all ;-). I guess it’s an excellent itinerary if you’re trying to avoid Disney? LOLOL! But that set aside, yeah, it’s a good mix of the larger and smaller Orlando area attractions.

So if you plan to go somewhere but need some help on the itinerary, you may want to give Visitacity a try. The program is simple to use, and you can customize their suggestions to your own tastes and likings. If you need help with an itinerary, it’s a good start, at least.

[…] Know Where You’re Going But Need Help With An Itinerary? Try Visitacity! by YMMV. Anybody had experience with this site? I’m yet to find a really good jumping off point that is reliable, I’d obviously never rely on something like this 100% but sometimes it’s nice to be able to have a quick glance on some different options on what to do.
