We love renting cars from Silvercar and have always had a good experience when using them. Their no-hassle pricing model, that doesn’t charge extra for going through a toll booth or having them fill the car with gas, is wonderful, especially if you’re in a hurry. Anyway, Silvercar has been busy making some big changes over the last few months:
- They’ve added new rental locations
- They now rent three different Audi models
- They changed their name
New Rental Locations
Silvercar now has 25 locations around the United States; nineteen airport locations and six city locations in New York City, Miami and San Francisco. That’s not a big footprint, so our opportunity to use them is limited. To make things harder, I’m always looking for the cheapest rental car and Silvercar is usually not the cheapest option out there. I only rent from Silvercar when rates are running high from everyone and I have no other options available. If Silvercar is available at that destination, I’d rather rent from them instead of overpaying for a mediocre car from another company.
On September 17th, Silvercar opened their newest airport location in Charlotte, NC. Shortly after, on September 24th, they added their third city location when a location opened in San Francisco’s Union Square.

New Car Options
When Silvercar started, you didn’t have much choice in vehicle. I had to decide between three identical Silver Audi A4’s when I rented from them at Dallas-Fort Worth (a location they closed a few years ago).
At certain locations, Silvercar is now renting Audi A5 Cabriolet convertibles and Audi Q5 SUVs.
Prices vary by location and season but I’m sure a family would enjoy renting an SUV for the same price as a sedan.
New Name
In March of 2017, Audi announced they were purchasing Silvercar (they were already a minority owner of the company). So it comes as no shock when Silvercar announced their new name, Silvercar by Audi.
OK, so that’s not such a big deal. Maybe it will mean more in the future; only time will tell.

Final Thoughts
I’m glad to see Silvercar expanding and offering different cars in more cities. They do offer a service different than any other rental car company and will hopefully pull other companies towards a more customer oriented business model.
