When you visit a city enough times, you may get to the point where you feel like you’ve “seen it all.” Such was the case for Joe and me in NYC. After all, we had both grown up in the area and still go to visit several times a year. The Broadway shows we went to see would change (well, except when we were seeing a favorite one again. And again. And…again. Don’t judge.), but eventually we had been to all the museums, parks, and general tourist attractions we thought we could (or wanted to).
Well, now I have a whole new list that should keep us busy for a good, long while.
For years, Atlas Obscura has been my go-to for going down rabbit holes and finding weird places. Why it never dawned on me to check it out for the Big Apple when we thought we had hit everything we could ever want to is beyond me. But there you go.
Not everything they list is accessible to the general public, but a lot of it is. We’re talking the New York Transit Museum (including a tour of the Old City Hall station), Sunshine Laundromat (Joe’s gonna love that one!) (Joe, YASSSSSS! You had me at beer and pinball), and a whole, WHOLE lot more.
Geesh, and I thought I was hot stuff when I reported on The Museum of Sex, places in NYC for geeks and nerds, how you could really have Breakfast At Tiffany’s), and the hotel that used to have the adults-only miniature golf course at its rooftop bar (Note: the adults-only topiaries are still there, just no more mini golf) in NYC.
