Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- If we’re not renting a car, Joe and I use tend to use Uber/Lyft when we’re traveling. It’s not my favorite way to get from Point A to Point B, since drivers have figured out so many ways to scam people:
— when a driver reports you threw up in their car, otherwise known as “vomit fraud”
— that time when a driver took a longer route and we ended up with a higher charge
— when a driver asks you to cancel the ride and if you do, they get paid and you get dinged
— when a driver claims you damaged their car and puts a claim for the money against you
— that time when a driver said he picked us up and dropped us off (our ride was 1 block/1 minute long?) and we got charged for it, even though, in actuality, he never showed up in the first place
But you know it’s getting really bad when it’s Uber itself that’s making it harder on customers. Matthew from Live And Let’s Fly reported that it appears Uber charges more when your phone battery is low. - Ziggy from Traveling For Miles reports that Air New Zealand will offer more legroom in economy class. I don’t think they’re the new seat design that the FAA approved a few months ago so I wonder how they’re going to do it?
- Joe and I went to Australia in 2014 and had a blast (despite all the things that can kill you LOL!). We went on an Adventures By Disney tour and part of the tour included Uluru, a.k.a. Ayer’s Rock.
We didn’t climb Uluru, but lots of tourists do, despite the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of the land requesting that they don’t. To that end, effective October 26, 2019, Uluru will be permanently closed to climbers. - Gary from View From The Wing reported that Singapore Airlines is dropping its hailed lobster thermidor from its regular menu. If you’re wondering what they’re going to serve instead (or what any airline is serving), check this out.
- Gary from View From The Wing (Gary is a double feature this week! LOL!) also posted about right after the Caesars CEO called resort fees straws that breaks the camels back, Caesars raised their resort fees. I suppose that’s not quite as stupid as the Marriott CEO who compared resort fees to checked bag fees, but it’s definitely up there. At least there are still a few ways to try to get around resort fees.
- Scott from Travel Codex reports that California has now banned single-use toiletries from hotel rooms. It sounds as if New York may not be far behind.
- Gilbert from God Save The Points posted about what your flight cabin crew can see on their iPads. None of it is surprising but it was still a fascinating read to know what they know and what they do with the info.
