Which Airlines Did We Fly The Most In 2019?

by joeheg

I’m going over our travels from 2019, and there are many things different than the post I put together in 2018. In that year, I traveled more than Sharon, our most frequently used airline was Southwest and we flew exclusively in domestic economy class. For 2019, everything I just said in that sentence is wrong.

In 2019, Sharon flew more miles than I did, we flew in several different cabin types, and we had a different airline as our most popular.

Here’s a look at the numbers.

My flight map for the year looked like this:

JH map

I flew 20 flight segments covering 29,191 miles. My longest flight was from London Gatwick to Orlando, covering 4,353 miles, and my shortest trip was from Frankfurt, Germany to Salzburg, Austria at 254 miles.

Sharon’s map has a few more lines than mine.

SH map

She flew 32,622 miles over 27 flight segments. Her longest flight was the same as mine but her shortest trip was from Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) to Asheville Regional (AVL) covering only 72 miles. I’m hoping we’ll eventually get some sort of report on those flights because I’m so jealous I didn’t get to travel with her on that trip (Note from Sharon: OK, OK!).

Here’s the breakdown by airline:

  • Delta: Joe & Sharon 5
  • JetBlue: Sharon 6, Joe 4
  • Southwest: Joe & Sharon 3
  • Frontier – Sharon 3, Joe 1
  • American – Joe 3, Sharon 1
  • Virgin Atlantic – Joe & Sharon 2
  • Singapore – Joe & Sharon 1
  • Lufthansa – Joe & Sharon 1
  • Private plane – Sharon 5

Once again, we managed to not have any connecting flights on our domestic travels. For our international flights, we had to arrange for some positioning flights and we did connect to reach our initial destination in Europe. Still, it never took us more than two flight segments to get from where we started to where we were going and I’ll live with that.

Almost all of our domestic travels were in the economy cabin except for one flight in Delta First Class (as part of an international award ticket). I did get to enjoy my favorite seat on Southwest because of the priority boarding reimbursement you get by having the Southwest Priority credit card.

For our Trans Atlantic flights, we flew in several different classes. On Virgin Atlantic, we tried our Premium Economy on their 747 and the A330. We went all out for our Germany trip flying on Singapore’s business class from JFK-FRA and back on Delta One. Reviews for those flights are coming soon.

Final Thoughts

While the majority of our domestic flights will continue to be with JetBlue, Delta and Southwest, we have another big international trip coming up in 2020, which will include our first Trans-Pacific flights in 6 years (has it really been that long?)

Wow, you two get around! I know what snacks you get on Southwest. So what airline has the best snacks?!
