When Las Vegas announced its new safety guidelines for reopening back in early May, a lot of people were hoping they would include something about banning smoking.
They didn’t.
But it looks like there could be one resort on the Strip that may be going 100% smoke free anyway, once it reopens.
Las Vegas has been taking baby steps towards non-smoking environments for years. In 2006 they passed the Clean Indoor Act, which banned cigarette smoking in public spaces such as restaurants, hotel lobbies, shopping places, and elevators. The Delano, Vdara and several MGM branded hotels are smoke-free. You can also find some nightclubs that don’t allow smoking.
Unfortunately, the casinos and other gaming areas have still allowed smoking. Granted, the air filtration system is better than that it was years ago, so you may not choke on the smoke in the casinos, but it’s there and noticeable.
Welp, VitalVegas.com, a blog with all essential Vegas news, tips, deal, etc., has written that the Park MGM Resort, a mega-resort with 2,992 guest rooms and a 102,000sf casino floor, is reportedly going to be the first smoke-free casino resort on the Las Vegas strip. And they’re talking 100% smoke-free – the hotel, the pool and…wait for it…the casino. Whoop whoop!
The timing of the supposed smoking ban may appear to put it in relation to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic. But it’s also being suggested the Park MGM Resort would use it as a marketing tool, as it hasn’t been particularly popular since it was rebranded from the Monte Carlo in 2018.
VitalVegas is suggesting the smoking ban would be considered a temporary measure, but if it turned out to be popular, who knows what could happen in the future?
At this point, the no-smoking ban appears to be a rumor – it’s based on an interview the resort’s CEO did with a local TV station regarding the future of Vegas resorts and smoking. However MGM Resorts also recently sent out a survey that asked about guests’ feelings towards non-smoking policies. On top of that, top players at the resort have apparently been contacted by casino hosts to get their input. So now it’s just a matter of waiting to see if an announcement ever happens or not.
Although no reopening has been announced yet, the Park MGM Resort is taking reservations from July 1 onward. So if they plan to go smoke-free, I would think they’d announce it more sooner than later.
Joe and I enjoy our occasional trips to Vegas. When we go, anything smoke-free will always get our attention before places that allow smoking. Perhaps others will feel the same way and a trend will finally start.

Finally! I would totally support a non-smoking facility. Smoke filled casinos are the number one reason I do not go in them. I live an hour and a half from Vegas and I would spend a whole lot more time there if I could breathe. Thank you for even considering taking this giant step!
This was done decades ago with the Lady Luck.
It’s a nice theory, but, I don’t know how long it will last.
Good luck tho
Actually the first non-smoking casino on the strip was the silver slipper. People weren’t ready and it went out of business.
Thank God, I can’t walk through them anymore because I don’t want cancer so I stay out. Which may be fine as I don’t lose money this way but I’m happy for forward thinkers, smoking isn’t cool anymore.
All the casinos should be non smoking the smoke is such a danger especially to all the people that have health and respiratory problems. The smoke never goes away it stays in the carpets and as you walk the smoke pops up into your face making you cough. If they want to smoke they should go outside. Most of the time they spill the ashtrays and leave cigarette ashes all over the machines tables and chairs.
It is difficult to remain on the tables for long periods because of the smoking. It would be a great relief to have a casino that was non-smoking. I would definitely give them my business, as well as everyone I know who feels the same way. Many have stopped going to Vegas due to smoking. It will be well received.
The thing is most degenerate gamblers are smokers. My local tribal casino has a non-smoking section and it is mostly empty while the smoking section is packed.
It won’t last, the casino will lose too much money
Absolutely ๐
Go somewhere else if you want to create a smoke free environment….
Smoke free is already every where
What more do you all want !!!!!
Leave Vegas alone ๐
I can just imagine how much cleaner air we would be breathing once the NO SMOKING Casinos will be in Full Force. That will be a start of a HEALTH trend altogether as long as we are practicing health n safety procedures WHY not try the NON SMOKING inside n take a break away from the action n a little stroll outside for that puff!! FOR ALL OUR HEALTH!!!
