Las Vegas Is Getting An Attraction It’s Never Had Before

by SharonKurheg

Las Vegas has had a lot of things come and go. Casinos. Hotels. Restaurants. Shows. Brothels. But now planning to build one type of attraction it’s never had.

Las Vegas is getting its very first urban central park.

The plan is for the park to be in Downtown Las Vegas, across the street from City Hall. It’ll take up one whole city block and the city’s goal is to turn it into a smaller (*cough* much smaller *cough*) version of New York’s Central Park.

The space would take up roughly 1.5 acres and would tentatively include public and social events for music, art and fitness; benches, bike racks and storage; a bike rental station; restrooms; a café; shaded seating; and elements of natural character and local history.

PC: City of Las Vegas / Tentative plan for Las Vegas’ urban central park

“Given the typical daily influx of workers and visitors into the core area, (the) park will likely attract office employees during the daytime, residents in the evening, and visitors during weekends and holidays,” the city of Las Vegas said in a recent report.

The first major step has occurred – the City Council agreed last month to purchase the property of a bail bonds business that’s on the planned space right now. It’s the last parcel on the square block.

“I’m excited about us completing the area here across from City Hall,” said Councilwoman Olivia Diaz. “I think it’ll definitely bring an area that hopefully our community can enjoy down the road.”

Construction could be expected to begin in a year and until then, the city is considering using part of the block for parking.

So, Las Vegas is getting a proper park. This looks like it will be good urban park/plaza. I had to get a good laugh that “Vegas is getting an attraction that is has never had before.” It’s sad that Vegas is just now getting a proper urban park.

I had higher hopes for MGM’s Parc. It turned out to be a plaza with some sculptures. Disappointing space

I hope they have security or it will turn out to be a homeless hang out. They have ruined every park in las Vegas

Exactly, this will be a place for homeless and for thugs to hang out. This is not a good idea

@ Keith w Clark. Youโ€™re exactly right I was about to say pretty much the same thing. I bet the homeless are extremely exited to get a new campground built for them..

I agree. Can they build a NEW HOMELESS PARK OUT BY THE RACETRACK?

Why don’t they do it in an area where locals, the ones who will end up paying for it, will actually use it. No locals I know want to go downtown or anywhere near Las Vegas blvd except for work. And by the way there are no brothels in Las Vegas, only hookers and pimps that hang out down there.

Comparing this little square of grass and concrete to New York’s Central Park is certainly a stretch ๐Ÿ™‚

Agreed ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was just paraphrasing what I had read they said.

Another great place for the homeless to hang out and even sleep. It might be ok for a lunch place to eat and hang out during work, but at night, look out, as all the homeless have a great place to S LEEP.
