easyJet just hasn’t had a good run of passengers recently. First there was this guy, who epitomized “just because you ‘can’ do something on a plane doesn’t mean you ‘should.'” And now this.
Following the completion of a flight from London to Turkey, an easyJet passenger was arrested after being involved in, not one, but two separate fighting incidents on the flight.
It all started about two hours into flight EZY8841, from London Gatwick to Antalya. A man’s son threw a paper airplane and another passenger caught the plane and crumpled it up. This caused the father of the boy to go ballistic and “come to blows” with the guy who crumpled the toy. A fistfight ensued, complete with cursing at each other.
When the fight was broken up, the father of the boy was moved closer to the front of the plane, to separate him from the other man.
Fast forward a little while, and just before the plane landed, the man who had been moved upfront to avoid confrontation, began cursing and yelling racist insults at a fellow passenger who was a woman of color. That was followed by him allegedly punching the woman, who was in the row in front of him.
Upon landing, the enraged man was escorted off the plane, where he was given over to local police.
Video of some of the incident is below. Trigger warning: it includes footage of the man punching. Expletives appear to have been bleeped out.
Although the first incident appeared to be because of the paper airline, it is not known what set the man off the second time. Some passengers claim he had racially insulted someone earlier in the flight, and the woman he ultimately punched was defending the person he had insulted earlier.
It’s not known if the man was under the influence of any substances or if he is just naturally a racist with no self-control.
A spokesperson for EasyJet said, “We can confirm flight EZY8841 from London Gatwick to Antalya on 8 September was met by police on arrival and a passenger was removed by police as a result of their disruptive behavior onboard. Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously, and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior onboard.”
The statement continued, “EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority.”
easyJet, you’ve got two in a row now. Let’s not try to make it a hat trick, OK?
