JetBlue is Offering to Match Your Status From Another Airline AND Is Offering Everyone a Challenge to Earn/Extend Their Membership

I’ve said before how I like not being loyal to any one airline. It allows me to pick out the best price for the flight that best fits my schedule on an airline I’m willing to fly on. That being said, if you happen to fly enough to have status on an airline, another airline will occasionally match that status to give you incentive to leave your preferred airline and give them a try.

Case in point, here’s an email I just received from JetBlue the other day:

If you have elite status on another airline, enter the Mosaic Status Match, and if you qualify, we’ll grant you Mosaic through the rest of 2017. Plus, you’re automatically registered into the Mosaic Challenge, where you can earn Mosaic membership through 2018 if completed. You will have 90 days to earn 3,750 base flight TrueBlue points during your Challenge period to qualify for Mosaic through December 31, 2018. Are you a Blue Inc. customer? Any bookings made through Blue Inc. will also count during your Challenge period. As a reminder, you earn 3 base flight points for every dollar you spend on JetBlue-operated flights.

It’s important to know that JetBlue only has one level in their frequent flyer program – it’s called Mosaic. So there’s no list of precious metals or gemstones to advance through to get to the top. But what still makes this match so generous is that JetBlue is apparently matching even the lowest levels of loyalty to Mosaic. Here’s the list:

If you were able to take advantage earlier this year of a targeted offer for A-List status with Southwest for three round-trip flights, you’d now be able to match that for Mosaic status for the rest of the year with JetBlue.

You can sign up for the status match or challenge at the link here. You must register for either promotion by August 14, 2017.

So what does Mosaic status get you?

If you fly a lot for business, being able to change or cancel flights with no fee is a big deal for you. Hopefully you already have TSA Precheck so Even More Speed isn’t that important for you but being able to board early and make sure your carry on bag will be with you, is. If you ever need to check a bag, the 1st and 2nd bag free can save you a great deal of money. At minimum, you’d earn an additional 3 TrueBlue points per dollar spent for being a Mosaic member.

Also included for everyone is the Status Challenge. You can sign up for this even if you have no status with another airline or you are automatically enrolled if you sign up to match your status. If you earn 3,750 base points in the 90 days after enrolling, you get Mosaic status until the end of 2018. Since you earn 3 base points per dollar, that means spending $1250 on airfare for flights you are completing in three months (I’ve found that TrueBlue points do not post until after your flight). If you have several flights that you could take (or already have booked) with JetBlue within 90 days of signing up for the promotion, this might be a good deal if you wanted to try Mosaic status for 12-18 months without spending the usual $5,000 in a calendar year to qualify.

I like flying JetBlue. Their planes are comparatively nice, they have live TV and usually dependable wi-fi. If I had status with another airline and was planning on flying JetBlue at all for the rest of the year, I’d consider signing up for the status match. If you have a bunch of upcoming flights booked on JetBlue that would put you close to the challenge and could meet the requirements, that might be a good idea for you, as well.
