Imagine…Floating In A Canal…In Your Own Hot Tub (yes, really!) (Updated January, 2021)

Just think of it – a wood-fired hot tub that’s actually a boat that can be sailed or powered by an engine. Sounds cool, huh? Believe it or not, it’s already happening! Travel fans, let us introduce you to the Hot Tug!

Invented by some Dutch folks who were thinking out of the box, Hot Tugs have been sailing in canals of The Natherlands, Finland, Switzerland and England for a couple of years now and they’re working hard to expand into the United States. As per Travel And Leisure, the newest addition to the Hot Tug fleet is in the murky waters of London’s Regent’s Canal (they did Kickstarter-type crowdfunding to get the money raised)

Hot Tugs are handmade in Holland and hold 6 to 8 people. The boats are equipped with electric motors and, of course, have been safety tested. As per their FAQ, a wood stove in the front of the boat heats the water up to 38° C (100° F) in about 2.5 hours. All it takes is a small fire built with normal logs. But no worries about having a fire on board –  the stainless steel is cooled by the water around it while heating it up at the same time!

Want more information? Just check out Hot Tug’s web page or Facebook page. It sounds like something we would try if we were visiting a place that offered such a thing. If you go, let us know what it’s like!

A hat tip and THANK-YOU to Jeff F. for the heads up about this topic!
