This week the news in the miles and points world was mainly focused around a few big stories. I’m not going to focus on United & dogs, Amazon.com & JetBlue or Chase & Iberia. Here’s the REST of what was out there this week…
- Being from Florida, the news that the Florida Legislature voted to stay on Daylight Savings Time year round was exciting to me. Who likes having to change clocks twice a year anyway? Andy’s Travel Blog points out why having just one state not taking part isn’t a smart idea.
- There’s another report of a passenger with measles passing through an airport. Just a reminder if you travel you need to keep up on your immunizations.
- Like many of you, I lost a bit of my childhood when I heard that Toys R Us stores are closing. Mommy Points writes about how to handle a major closure if you have gift cards for the location, as well as information on liquidation sales.
- I don’t write about every great AMEX offer but Frequent Miler usually does. They made sure to point out a great offer at Lowe’s, if you’re targeted.
- We’ve only stayed at Hyatt Place one time but we loved the hotel. The free breakfast was better than almost any other hot hotel breakfast we’ve experienced. Of course that has to mean Hyatt is “testing” the idea of not including free breakfasts anymore.
- Jon at No Mas Coach points out that Starwood hotels are not offering an AARP discount on their website anymore. They still offer a senior discount, the same as Marriott hotels do, but you didn’t need to be a senior to join AARP. So all of you AARP members who aren’t at least 62, you’re out of luck. You still can get the AAA discount which is usually the same.
- Having just paid $150 to upgrade to first class on an Alaska Airlines flight, I can vouch that their seats can use an upgrade. Apparently they’ve heard the message from passengers and have announced the changes they’ll be making by 2019.
