Get ready fans of Violet Crawley, Carson, Lady Mary and Thomas Barrow, because a Downton Abbey themed cruise is scheduled to float down London’s River Thames this summer!
Barge Lady Cruises, a barge cruise specialty agency based out of Chicago, has developed a six-night cruise that will sail from Hampton Court to Henley-on-Thames, following a transfer from London. The 4-star cruise will take place aboard the eight-passenger barge Magna Carta.
To keep with the Downton Abbey theme, the sailings will focus on English royalty and castles. Included will be the ability to visit and explore Hampton Court Palace (the Tudor-style palace of King Henry the 8th), Windsor Castle (the British royal family residence for more than 900 years), a Tudor manor that’s regularly used for filming, Christ Church College of Oxford (the oldest college in England), and the highlight of the cruise, a visit to Highclere Castle, the main filming location for PBS’ “Downton Abbey” TV series!
Cruises will include gourmet meals such as freshly baked goods from a local boulangerie, along with fruit, cereal, yogurt, cheese, coffee, tea, and juice for breakfasts. For lunches and dinners, ythe onboard Chef creates regionally and seasonally inspired fare. Lunch is typically a light buffet featuring hearty salads and savory entrees, and the multi-course gourmet dinner is served with grand table settings and fine crockery, all in a festive setting. Wine pairings feature a red and a white from area vineyards, along with a cheese platter of artisanal favorites.
