Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me?

You totally just sang that in your head, didn’t you? 😉
It’s hard to believe that the world’s most favorite animated mouse is about to turn 90 years old soon. Virtually all of the Disney theme parks around the world are doing something to celebrate, be it special merchandise and food/beverages, parade floats, commemorative park tickets, special decorations and what’s being called The World’s Biggest Mouse Party. It sounds like a BLAST!
But what if you can’t make it to a Disney park in the not-too-distant future? Well, how about New York City? Mickey: The True Original Exposition is going to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s NINETY years of influence on art and pop culture and tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit, which will held on the lower west side of Manhattan, and tickets are on sale right now!
This first of its kind immersive pop up exhibit will be encased in a 16,000 square foot temporary building and will feature historic and contemporary work from reknowned artists such as Darren Romanelli, Amanda Ross-Ho, Kenny Scharf and Shinique Smith.
“As Walt said, ‘I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse’,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. “From ‘The True Original Exhibition’ to a year-long celebration in our parks around the world, we are honoring the deep connection that families and fans have made with Mickey and Minnie Mouse for nearly a century.”
“We hope guests will enjoy the exhibition’s larger-than-life multimedia art installations, photo-worthy experiences and even a few surprises,” says Ken Potrock, President, Consumer Products Commercialization, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. “We’ve partnered with the best muralists, sculptors, artists and designers to create original works that convey Mickey’s optimism and imagination.”
Located at 60 10th Avenue in New York City, Mickey: The True Original Exhibition will open just ten days before Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday and will run from November 8, 2018 through February 10, 2019 (Tuesday-Sunday – the exhibition will be closed on Mondays), from 10am – 8pm. To enter the Exhibition you must have a ticket purchased in advance, as no tickets will be available at the event venue. The taking of non-professional photos and videos will be encouraged. A gift shop will be available and you don’t have to enter the exhibit to be able to enter the gift shop (who’s surprised, raise your hand? Thought not LOL).
Before the official opening in November, three artists will preview their installations in three pop-up locations across the country. Locations of these are TBA at this time.
